#14 Erik Cordier, P

Active

Position: P
Date of Birth: 02/25/1986
Height: 6' 4"   Weight: 230 lbs
Bats: R
Throws: R
Resides: Du Pere, WI

Biography:
  • Acquired by the Braves from the Kansas City Royals organization in exchange for infielder Tony Peña, Jr. 7/23/2007
  • Originally drafted by the Royals in the second round of the 2004 MLB Draft
2006
  • After missing 2005 with injury, Erik appeared in ten games in the Royals organization
  • Started three games in June with the Idaho Falls Chukars of the Pioneer League (Rookie), pitching through the fifth inning twice and through the sixth once, going 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA
  • Promoted to the Burlington Bees of the Midwest League (A) in July and started seven games with Burlington, winning three of four decisions and posting a 2.70 ERA
  • Dominant on 8/7 against the Dayton Dragons: seven innings, no runs on two hits, six strikeouts and no walks in his second win with Burlington
2007
  • Missed the 2007 season following Tommy John surgery in December of 2006
2008
  • Rebounded from his lost ’07 campaign to make 12 combined appearances between the GCL and Rome Braves
  • Started the season in the Gulf Coast League, starting two of three appearances; Erik only totaled five innings pitched but did not allow a single run on four hits in the GCL
  • Moved up to the South Atlantic League on 7/8, throwing six and two-thirds innings without allowing an earned run in his first two appearances with Rome
  • Had his unquestioned best—and longest—outing of the year on 8/23 though he received a no-decision, going six and a third shutout innings and only allowing two hits in a 1-0 win over Savannah
  • Followed that up with his biggest struggle of the year, tagged for eight runs on eleven hits in just three and a third against Charleston to close the season on 8/29
  • Showed great progress in the road back from Tommy John surgery with his fastball regaining its jump and touching the mid-90s on the radar gun and a continued reclamation of his curveball, always a tall order for pitchers recovering from Tommy John surgery
