Biography:
  • Chosen by the Braves in the third round of the 2006 MLB Draft from Walsh Jesuit (OH) High School
  • Went 18-0 in his high school career
  • Enters 2009 as the 25th best prospect in the Atlanta system according to Baseball America
2006
  • Broke onto the scene with a 3-2 record, 2.31 ERA and one save in 11 games in the Gulf Coast League
  • Named the GCL Braves’ Pitcher of the Year
  • Twice turned in consecutive scoreless outings, first on 7/20 (where he earned his only save of the year) and on 7/25, throwing four innings in each game, both against the GCL Yankees and again on 8/10 and 8/15, both five-inning performances against the GCL Tigers
  • Got the W in three of his last four decisions from 7/31-8/15
2007
  • Struggled with shoulder tendonitis but still performed well in 11 games with the Danville Braves, posting a 3-1 record with a 3.88 ERA and converting his only save opportunity
  • Converted his only save opportunity (in his only relief appearance) and notched six Ks in four perfect innings 7/3 vs. Kingsport
  • Did not tally fewer than two strikeouts in any outing and only twice posted more than one walk
  • Won three straight to finish the year including wins in back-to-back starts 7/15 over Elizabethton and 7/21 over Bristol
2008
  • Spent his entire third year with the Rome Braves, appearing in 20 games (16 starts)

  • Lack of consistent run support contributed to an eight-game losing streak from 4/14-6/11
  • Strained shoulder kept him sidelined all but 21.2 innings in the second half of 2008
  • Getting off on the right foot: posted ERAs of 2.81 in 16 frames each of first- and second-inning work
  • Putting out the fire: held opponents to a .205 average and ten runs with runners in scoring position and two outs
