Biography:
  • Picked by the Braves out of Mercer (GA) University in the fourth round of the 2007 Draft
  • Sidearmed right-hander transferred from Young Harris College in Georgia to Mercer where he held opponents to a .109 average against him
  • Played with the Cotult Kettleers of the prestigious Cape Cod League in the summer of 2006 and was named a Western Division All-Star
2007
  • Spent his first season in Danville, coming out of the bullpen in his 18 appearances
  • After struggling to the tune of a 10.13 ERA on 7/30 after ten appearances to open the year, Cory buckled down, not allowing a run in 14.2 innings over seven appearances to end the season
  • Lowered his ERA to 4.44 by season’s end
  • Posted a sparkling 0.57 ERA in eight games in August, only allowing a single run on 11 hits versus a 7.45 ERA in the month of July, during which he gave up nine runs (eight earned) on eight hits
  • Held opposing left-handed and right-handed hitters to identical .214 averages
  • Was brilliant with traffic on the basepaths, holding opponents to a .170 average with runners aboard, .171 with runners in scoring position and working out of six bases loaded situations without allowing a hit
2008
  • Split 36 games almost right down the middle between Rome and Myrtle Beach, taking the mound 19 times in a Braves’ uniform before donning a Pelicans’ jersey starting in early July
  • Did not allow a single earned run in six consecutive appearances from 5/6-5/27 in Rome, picking up the win in the final two games of that stretch (5/24, 5/27 both vs. Hickory)
  • Departed from Rome with a 3-2 record, a 2.82 ERA and a single save (6/27 vs. Savannah)
  • Earned a win in his first game on the Grand Strand, tossing two scoreless and hitless innings 7/9 against Salem
  • Did not allow a run in five of his first six appearances with the Pelicans from 7/9-7/26
  • Struggled away from BB&T, going 0-1 with an ERA of 7.94 in seven road outings versus 3-0 with a 2.92 ERA at home
