North serves as the General Manager of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. 2008 marked his 31st year in minor league baseball, the last 23 of which have been spent as General Manager. 2008 was also an award-winning season for North, as he was awarded his fourth Carolina League Executive of the Year Award, after guiding the Pelicans to a franchise attendance record and overseeing the highly successful California-Carolina League All-Star Game.
Prior to coming to the Grand Strand, North was the GM of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (A-Los Angeles Angels) in the California League. In his three seasons with Rancho Cucamonga in Southern California, beginning in 2004, he was instrumental in additions and improvements to the Epicenter, the home of the Quakes. He oversaw the addition of a state-of-the-art video board and sound system, improved and renovated the luxury suites, expanded the picnic area, and upgraded food services at the ballpark. For his outstanding work leading Rancho Cucamonga, North was selected as the California League's "Executive of the Year" in 2005.
North was the General Manager of the Kinston Indians for 17 seasons from 1987 until 2003 and was tabbed as the Executive of the Year three different times during his tenure in Kinston (1988, 1994 and 2000). Under his watchful eye the Indians received the Bob Freitas Award in 1994. In 2003, as a show of appreciation for his service, the city of Kinston handed Johnson the Keys to the City. In 2004, he became the first inductee into the Kinston Indians / Grainger Stadium Wall of Fame after his success with the franchise.
Johnson recently celebrated his 26th wedding anniversary with his wife Anita. The couple lives in Myrtle Beach along with their son Stephen (18), a freshman at East Carolina University, and daughter Taylor (16) who is a freshman at Socastee.
Johnson has made and continues to put a focus on the community and charitable organizations and remains actively involved with the Boys and Girls Club, Safehouse, Boy & Girl Scouts of America, Red Cross, American Heart Association, ALS Foundation, Chamber of Commerce and more.
