Senior Director of Sports Turf Management/Ballpark Operations

Chris "Butter" Ball, will be in his 8th tour of duty with Pelicans as the Senior Director of Sports Turf Management and as the Director of Ballpark Operations in 2010.

2009 completed the unprecedented four-peat as the Carolina League Sports Turf Manager of the year for Mr. Ball. He also claimed the honor following the 2006, 2007 and 2008 seasons. He was also distinguished with the honor of being named the Class A National Sports Turf Manager of the Year in 2007 by Minor League Baseball and the Sports Turf Managers Association.

Butter's duties include maintaining the playing facility, stadium facility, clubhouses and serving as a liaison with the City of Myrtle Beach.

He joined the Pelicans after stints in Greensboro, NC with the City of Greensboro Parks and Recreation as a Supervisor of Athletic Facilities and Harrisburg PA as the Head Grounds keeper for the Double A Senators.

He received his degree in Parks and Recreation Administration from UNC Greensboro in 1998. Butter a Greenville, North Carolina native resides in Little River, with his wife Cooper and their 3 dogs Hogan, Phoebe, and Kordell.

Hogan also serves as the 2nd Assistant Groundskeeper at BB&T Coastal Field. Hogan, Butter's 6 year old yellow lab and duck hunting partner is known to be the welcoming committee for everyone who comes through the back gate of BB&T Coastal Field.

In the off season, he duck hunts every chance he gets and spends a lot of time outdoors, whether it is on the boat chasing saltwater fish, a duck blind, or a field chasing quail. He's also been known to swing the golf club every now and then. Butter is an avid UNC Tarheels fan, whether it be on the gridiron or on the hardwood.
